Three takeaways from Washington Football Team’s Week 7 win vs. Cowboys
3. Washington’s pass rush showed up in a big way
Washington needed to get a strong effort out of their pass rush. This was arguably their easiest matchup of the year to date and after failing against the Giants, they needed a bounce-back performance.
Dallas was missing their top three tackles on Sunday. Tyron Smith and La’el Collins are out for the season while Brandon Knight is also on IR. Additionally, Zack Martin, their best overall lineman, was out with a concussion, and center Joe Looney couldn’t play either. Because of this, Dallas was without five of their top six offensive linemen and with Andy Dalton at quarterback, they weren’t likely to overcome any pressure.
Washington was able to get a ton of pressure from the beginning of the game onward. They forced a safety on their first defensive drive of the game and on the day, they racked up six sacks of Dalton.

Montez Sweat led the way with a stellar performance. He racked up two sacks before leaving and being evaluated for a concussion. He looked excellent and used his length and athleticism to dominate the Cowboys front.
Cole Holcomb had what may have been the most impressive sack of the day when he came on a blitz, blew up Ezekiel Elliott, and took down Andy Dalton for a loss. Holcomb was explosive from the linebacker spot and should be used as a blitzer to supplement the pass rush moving forward.
Landon Collins, Tim Settle, and Ryan Kerrigan all logged sacks as well. It truly was a dominant showing and they accomplish what was arguably their biggest goal of the game: They made Dalton uncomfortable and forced Dallas to try to be a one-dimensional run-first team.
And that didn’t work against the Washington Football Team’s solid front-seven.
