The Washington Football Team reportedly lost safety Landon Collins for the season with an Achilles injury.

The Washington Football Team earned their best victory of the year against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7. They dominated the Cowboys in all facets of the game en route to a dominant 25-3 victory.

However, it wasn’t all good for Washington. They did get some bad news in the contest. It appears that Landon Collins will miss the rest of the season due to an Achilles injury.

The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

And after that, NFL reporter Josina Anderson stated that she had texted with Collins and that he would soon be having surgery after he felt his Achilles “pop.”

Losing Collins isn’t good news for Washington. The reason for that isn’t necessarily related to his on-field performance. Collins hasn’t played well for the team so far this season and has dealt with issues in coverage and tackling related to angling. Some fans will be happy to see Kamren Curl get some extra action and showcase what he can do for the team moving forward.

The bigger issue here is the fact that Collins’ injury will last a while. It will take him time before he is back to 100 percent and he may not get there at all even in 2021. He’s still young so he will bounce back, but given that he already wasn’t playing well and that Washington is on the hook for his money without an easy out for at least another year or two, it’s fair to wonder just what type of impact he may have on this team when he can return.

Also, even if Curl emerges as a starter, Washington isn’t going to be able to move Collins in any potential trade. It’s possible that another team with a lot of cap space would’ve taken a chance on the former All-Pro if they wanted to buy-low on him, but because of the injury, that will no longer be possible.

If Curl pans out and becomes the long-term starter, Collins will likely have to be a very highly-paid backup. Or Washington can just cut their losses at that point.

We’ll see what happens with Collins, but his injury isn’t good news for Washington. They already were thin at safety and without Collins, their upside at the position is diminished.
