Here’s what you can realistically expect from the Washington Football Team against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7.

We’ve reached the portion of the season for the Burgundy and Gold that has become all-too-familiar for Washington Football Team fans. Chicken Little Season. You know, that part of the season where a large percentage of the fan base (which is not nearly as large as it used to be) believes the season is over and worst possible thing moving forward is to win games.

Fans start dreaming up scenarios where the Jets win 3-4 games and don’t end up with the first pick in the draft. Radio pundits and former players start talking about “what went wrong” and the team’s biggest needs for next season.

There will be articles about how Dan Snyder is the second coming of the curse of the Bambino, and how there’s no reason to think anything good could ever come until he sells, and that Ron Rivera has lost his mind and is no longer a reliable straight-shooter.

And while it’s understandable that these standard reactions happen when a bad football team gets beat by a previously winless division opponent, it’s also just a tired carousel that I, at least for one more week, am choosing not to ride. And the reason is simple.

I watch football for the fun of it. And it’s just not fun to start talking about all of the doom and gloom six weeks into a football season. There’s plenty of time to discuss draft positioning. There are plenty more years (sadly) to agonize over the debacle that Dan Snyder’s ownership tenure has been.

But for now, unbelievably, this team, as bad as it has been this year, has a semi-meaningful game versus the team I take the most joy in rooting against. The reality is that the Washington Football Team has a chance to inflict some misery on the Cowboys this week, and so, all other concerns, future plans, fears, hopes, and complaints must take a back seat.

Beating Dallas and contributing to the epic unraveling of their Super Bowl dreams MUST take precedent over everything else this week. So, buckle up for a Dallas week edition of Washington Football reality checks.
