Positive 4

Dontrelle Inman and Logan Thomas were solid contributors on Sunday and that is a positive reversal from recent games.  Inman hauled in five catches on five targets and he had the key reception on fourth-and-4 late in the second quarter to keep a touchdown drive alive.  Inman was one of the better positives against the Giants.

Thomas scored the touchdown just before halftime that was kept alive by Inman’s catch.  Thomas snagged three receptions on four targets for 42 yards on Sunday and was able to stretch the field.  We’ll see if Thomas is coming out of his slump in the coming weeks, but Sunday’s game was a huge step in the right direction.

More from Commanders News

It’s time to focus on one of the coaches.  Offensive coordinator Scott Turner has taken a lot of verbal abuse from fans in recent weeks.  Some of it is deserved and most of it is rather unfair.  It is his first season as a coordinator and fans should be patient with him for now.

However, there is one moment we want to focus on from Sunday’s game and it is the two-point conversion attempt.

Going for two points was the right call, but the play was doomed as soon as the offense broke the huddle.  The Giants had seven defenders in the defensive backfield immediately after the snap.  Washington needed to spread the receivers and tight end out much further and let Kyle Allen try to reach the end zone on a quarterback draw.

Maybe it works.  Maybe it doesn’t work, but trying to pass into a small box that contains seven defenders will not work.  The designed play was never going to have any reasonable chance and that is on Scott Turner.
