Stock Down: OC Scott Turner

The Scott Turner offense has been a failed experiment so far. During training camp, talks of a lot of pre-snap motion and gimmicky plays had fans excited. That offense has not worked yet, at least not so far. Even after a change at quarterback, a move that was supposed to help a sputtering unit, the Scott Turner offense looks almost amateur.

They cannot run the ball effectively at all. They also never try to establish it. The offense has no sign of a deep passing attack. It is an easy offense to defend. It is an offense full of short routes, with minimal attempts to stretch out the defense.

This can be a huge reason why the Washington Football Team is last in the league on third downs. When you have no threat to get beat deep, you can just sit at the sticks. It’s an easy offense to defend. Not only is the inability to beat a defense deep a problem, but the route combinations also seem to be an issue. The routes always seem to be too close together.

While Scott Turner certainly didn’t get an easy task with his first offense and a strange offseason made matters worse, he hasn’t been calling good games. No matter who the quarterback is going forward, the offense stands no chance if they do not have a better plan going in.
