Washington Football Team Stud: Kyle Allen on the final TD drive

With about 3:30 left in the game, the Washington Football Team was trailing by a score of 20-13 to the Giants. They would have about one drive left to make it down the field, score, and either send the game to overtime or go for a game-winning 2-point conversion.

The responsibility of orchestrating this drive would fall on Kyle Allen shortly after he had a crushing fumble that caused Washington to fall behind. It wasn’t an ideal situation, but Allen was going to get his chance.

And he executed. Allen led the 10-pay drive and marched Washington 75 yards for the touchdown. There was less than a minute left on the clock when the drive finished and it was, truly, a very good 2-minute-type drive.

Allen hit an 18-yard pass to Terry McLaurin, but aside from that, he methodically moved the ball down the field. His goal was to pick up first downs, get to the line quickly, and make sure the team had enough time to make plays. Then, in the red-zone, he threw a beautiful dart to Cam Sims for a 22-yard score to cap off the drive.

Allen showed good decision making and solid accuracy on the drive. It was the brightest moment of the game for Washington and Allen showed that he at least can succeed in pressure-packed moments. That at least gives him a glimmer of hope at quarterback, even if he is more of a long-term backup than a starter.

While that drive showcased the best of Allen, the first dud of the day showcased the worst of Allen and may well have cost Washington the game.
