Positive and Negative No. 2

Positive No. 2

For the second week in a row, Kendall Fuller is a firm positive.  He had a sensational day against the Ravens a week earlier, but it wasn’t quite the same versus the Rams.  He had a key interception that led to an important field goal late in the first half, but the team couldn’t carry that momentum into the second half.

However, Fuller did provide a path for the team to take that step and it simply didn’t work that way.  Yes, he did make a couple of mistakes, but his efforts on Sunday were solid.

Fuller now has three interceptions in two games and at this pace, the former Hokie could reach ten by the end of the season.  If he can provide a leadership role on defense and combine it with a passionate spark on occasion, it could have a ripple effect on other players.

Negative No. 2

We need to talk about the safeties and the poor season they are experiencing.  Landon Collins and Troy Apke are having a season to forget.  Collins is on the cusp of being labeled as a free agent bust, and Apke is pretty much a fourth-round bust.

Each week, it is the same song and the second verse is the same as the first – horrible angles of attack, lousy coverage, poor tacking techniques, lack of awareness, and out-of-position issues.  It feels like the reincarnation of Baccari Rambo and Adam Archuleta.

Apke will be released during the upcoming offseason – guaranteed.  Collins will be with the team next year.  His contract makes it difficult to part ways, but that will change in 2022 when the cap hit will be much lower.  Is it 2022 yet?
