Washington Football Team: Five positives and negatives vs. Rams
Positive and Negative No. 1
Positive No. 1
The first positive is one that you have likely figured out before now. The return of Alex Smith. No, it wasn’t the best of games for him and it was actually a major struggle. When Kyle Allen went down late in the second quarter with an injury, Smith came trotting into the game and it marked the amazing comeback of an athlete that was close to losing his leg two years ago — and his life! The story will continue to be told as Smith will try to get in better shape and play more in actual games.
Most of us, it not all, truly thought his career was over and we rejoiced when Smith’s leg was saved and his life was spared. Before we knew it, there was talk of a return to football and no one really believed it. Yet, here we are today, and the return became a reality on Sunday. It remains to be seen if Smith can make a complete and total comeback, but it sure is great to see this special football player suiting up and playing again.
Negative No. 1
It’s really difficult to focus on a negative after talking about that first positive of the week, but we honestly have way too many things to mention on this side of the aisle. The first negative that we will mention is the atrocious level of coaching on Sunday. This is the first time we’ve had to put our focus on the coaching staff in the Five and Five articles this season.
The Washington Football Team looked sharp in the first quarter, but stumbled mightily in the final three quarters. There were no adjustments. Play calling was poor to disastrous. The team seemed unprepared following a good start. The sideline appeared to be unenthusiastic and disengaged from the game. The coaching staff needs to set a better tone each week.
