Stud No. 3 – Montez Sweat

Another game, another public display of Montez Sweat‘s absolutely freakish athleticism.

Montez Sweat had another sack against the Los Angeles Rams, brining his season total to 3.0 through five games. He also had two tackles for loss to add onto that. The stats back up Sweat’s impact, and the game film also does his athletic ability and size justice.

On one play, Jared Goff dropped back to pass, and Sweat rushed from the left side. Goff remained oblivious as Sweat beat his man, and closed in on Goff like a tidal wave, all 6-foot-6 and 262 pounds of him. Sweat’s speed caught Goff by surprise, and he forced a strip sack that almost resulted in a turnover.

Chase Young has cooled off since Week 1, partly due to injury, but in his place, Montez Sweat has slowly become a steady constant on the defensive side of the ball. We were all enamored with Young’s athleticism during draft season, but Sweat is arguably even more freakish, and he should be an impact player for the defense for years to come.
