No. 1 – Kyle Allen also throws at least two interceptions

I sensed some of you were getting a little too excited about Allen’s “execution boost”, so I had to bring y’all down to earth here.

As I said in the previous slide, Allen is at the very least an NFL quarterback, a title not a lot of people can claim. He has decent athleticism for the position, and his arm also has some juice. And at 24 years old, ideally, Allen would also have some withstanding developmental potential.

But before anyone can even acknowledge Allen as a potential long-term solution, or even a starter in any capacity, they have to acknowledge what prevented him from reaching that point last year.

Allen, as mentioned earlier, is extremely volatile, especially under pressure. His decision making can be inconsistent, as is the case with most young quarterbacks, and when the play devolves, he can panic on occasion.

Allen’s panic is different than Haskins, however. Rather than simply rushing his process like Haskins, Allen extends the play successfully, but makes risky decisions when forced into a corner. This was true against Washington last year, when Allen was sacked seven times and threw an interception.

Against Los Angeles’ opportunistic cornerback group, and with relentless pressure coming from Aaron Donald, I suspect Allen will feel the heat early, and while he will make some plays, he’ll also make some not-plays, and keep things well within the realm of perspective for the Washington Football Team and its fan base.
