The “Not Great Bob” Award

LG Wes Martin

I will start this off by saying this award is not meant to disrespect Wes Martin. It is just simple: Overall through the first four games, Martin has not been good. Granted, he has improved somewhat each week. Having said that, he has not been good.

Martin seems to struggle heavily with the strength of the NFL. He continuously gets pushed back at the point of attack. Most of you have probably seen the highlight of Malik Jackson in Week 1 making Martin do the “Nae-Nae” like it was 2015 again on the first passing play of the season.

As the season has progressed, the same issues have remained. In Arizona he was poor again. He was effectively able to keep the player in front of him. However, he still had instances where he was blown off the ball.

In the run game, Martin seems to be rather tentative in attacking the man he is blocking in space. Chris Cooley, on his offensive film breakdowns on the Kevin Sheehan Show, echoed this belief. It seems Martin tries to seal off his man instead of driving through him and pancaking him. Martin needs to be more physical in both the run and passing game.

Overall Grade: D (65)
