Here are the ballers and bums from the Washington Football Team’s Week 3 loss to the Browns.

Another week, another lopsided score. The Washington Football Team remains is first place through the magic of tiebreakers, but make no mistake: this is not a playoff team at this juncture. Unfortunately, there are some playoff-caliber players having solid years that are getting wasted on this bad team, but that’s generally the case in the NFL.

This week, Dwayne Haskins let his team down. He played so bad that he basically singlehandedly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. His inaccuracy and poor decision-making were only slightly more concerning than his lack of accountability in his post-game press conference. His inability to acknowledge his mistake in staring down his receivers is certainly cause for concern.

Meanwhile, Ron Rivera again waved the white flag early, both at the end of the first half and at the end of the game. By not using his timeouts to give his team more time, he’s sending a signal that he’s simply not that concerned about winning, which is not a message I want my head coach sending at any point in any professional sport in the first few weeks of any season. To quote Herm Edwards, “You play to win the game!”

But Haskins and Rivera aren’t the primary points of this article. In this series, we take a look back at each game to point out a few of the less-obvious performances that impacted the game both negatively and positively. So here are the Week 3 undercover ballers and bums.

Washington Football Team Baller: P Tress Way

Tress Way had only three punts in this game, but they were massively impactful. He pinned Cleveland deep with the first punt and then bombed punts of 60 and 55 yards with his next two while still limiting the total return yardage by Cleveland to 11. The man is a weapon that the Washington Football fans should not take for granted.

Washington Football Team Bum: S Landon Collins

Troy Apke is receiving all the safety  ire of Washington fans, but Landon Collins is having a sneaky terrible season so far. He’s missed a bunch of tackles (30 percent of his opportunities so far this season, according to Pro Football Reference) and really hasn’t had any positive impact plays outside of the interception in Arizona. Against Cleveland, he was consistently a step late in coverage on top of the missed tackles

Apke needs to be better. But he’s a fourth-round player on a rookie deal. Collins is a former Pro Bowler getting paid and isn’t playing any better. Consistently, Collins has had a poor rep on the same play as Apke.

Hopefully, Rivera and Del Rio are all over Collins in their Zoom meetings this week demanding that he step it up.

Washington Football Team Baller: OT Morgan Moses

Morgan Moses has still only been called for one penalty this season, and has not given up a sack. Moses performed very well again. He’s mauling guys in both the run and pass game. This play alone gets him baller status for this game (via Mark Tyler from Hogs Haven).

Washington Football Team Bum: Dustin Hopkins

You. Can’t. Miss. Extra. Points. That’s all I have to say.

Washington Football Team Baller: Tim Settle

After the very unfortunate losses of both Matt Ioannidis and Chase Young, the team needed Settle to step up. And he did. He got penetration on several running plays and held up his end of the bargain on passing downs enough to let Montez Sweat have the best day of his career off the edge.

Next. Five players to watch for Washington in Week 4. dark

With Ioannidis going on IR Monday, Settle is in line for a significant bump in playing time, and the team is going to need him to seize the opportunity. And that’s what he did Sunday.
