Stud No. 1 – DE Montez Sweat

Montez Sweat played like a man possessed for a good portion of Washington’s 34-20 loss to the Browns, and when Chase Young left with a groin injury, it seemed as though Sweat turned it up a notch, just to compensate for his teammate’s absence.

Sweat logged a sack and a tackle for loss in Week 3, and could have easily had three sacks. On one particular play, he wrapped up Baker Mayfield ten yards behind the line of scrimmage, only for Mayfield to throw the ball away as he went down. The play had a similar result to a sack, however — Mayfield’s throw didn’t pass the line of scrimmage, and thus, Sweat forced an intentional grounding penalty, giving Cleveland a ten-yard loss and a loss of downs.

Sweat looked ferocious coming off the edge, and Week 3 was just another reminder that he’s just as freakish of an athlete as Chase Young is. Sweat used his 6-foot-6, 262-pound frame to clog passing lanes, and utilized his 4.4 speed to close in on Mayfield and other ball carriers with astounding efficiency.

With injury timetables for both Young and Matt Ioannidis unclear, Sweat will undoubtedly be asked to carry his impact over to the coming weeks. With 2.0 sacks and three tackles for loss on the season, Sweat appears to be blossoming before our eyes.
