Important team stats

Ok, so we’ve looked at the most important position.  Now let’s dive into the most important team stats as they relate to win probability. Third down efficiency, turnover differential and red zone offense.

Washington is currently plus-1 in turnover margin, which ranks tied for third in the league.  It’s vital this number remains positive through the year.  Like coach Rivera said “it’s tough enough to beat one team, we can’t beat two”.

As for the other key stats, here’s how they shake out:

Red Zone Efficiency

Washington:  57 percent
Opponents:  50 percent

Third Down Efficiency

Washington: 30 percent
Opponents:  38 percent

Average Starting Field Possession

Washington: 34-yard line
Opponents: 48-yard line

Washington has clearly improved on Defense.  Their third-down defense ranks seventh in the NFL. Overall, they rank 13th in total yards, way up from the bottom-feeders they’ve been in recent years. I’d only expect these numbers to improve as the offense becomes more efficient.
