The end

WFT’s defense looks gassed as Arizona moves the ball from their own 16 deep into Washington territory, milking the clock all the way. At the two-minute warning, with Arizona in short field goal range, Coach Rivera chooses not to use any of his full complement of time-outs.

A victory at this point is highly unlikely, but had TOs been used, WFT would likely have gotten the ball back with about 1:30 left and down 15. Anyone who watched what Dallas did to Atlanta a few hours earlier knows that however unlikely a victory is at this point, stranger things have happened. To see the team essentially call it a day seemed odd.

There may be more to this, and perhaps I’m making too much of it, but most teams claw and scratch ‘til the last second, and it appeared that WFT packed it in at some point during that final Cardinal drive.

Bad taste. Bad game. A ton of mistakes. A very poor offensive performance. It isn’t surprising that Washington didn’t manage a victory against an exciting young team with a dynamic QB.

What does matter is how it responds next week against another young, talented, but beatable Cleveland Brown team.
