The first-half woes continue

After another 3 and out, the Cardinals’ fast guy – Andy Isabella – spanks WFT’s fast guy – Apke – for a 54-yard reception, eventually leading to a long  field goal and a 17-0 Cardinal lead.

The entire next drive summed up WFT’s day. It began with a sack as Angelo Blackson blew up both Brendan Scherff and Chase Roullier to get to Haskins. It ended with a sack, as Haason Reddick knocked WFT out of FG range.

In between, WFT moved the ball pretty well, using their only two reliable weapons on the day – Terry McLaurin’s pass-catching and J.D. McKissic’s running.

Another long pass and a great catch by Christian Kirk, who beat Ronald Darby and managed to stay in bounds, again put the Cardinals in the red zone, as seen below from the Cardinals Twitter account. It sets up another field goal and a 20-0 lead.

Inside the two-minute warning and being shut out, this would be a good time for WFT’s offense to show some life. Here’s what happens in this drive. Another very poor kick return by Sims. A penalty on Christian. And three attempted throws to Logan Thomas, who cannot manage any separation from De’Vondre Campbell, a linebacker who is known for his plays against the run. The three passes net 5 yards.

Oh, and WFT’s best lineman, Brendan Scherff goes down with an injury. He would not return though he is expected to return this season. The half ends 20-0.
