Closing thoughts

It is safe to say Washington doesn’t have very high expectations league wide. Some of you probably believe my 6-10 prediction is bullish. Washington’s defense alone, at least on paper, should make keep Washington competitive. It could even win them a few games.

The success of this team depends on how consistent this offense can be. I believe that the combination of Terry McLaurin, Steven Sims Jr, Antonio Gibson, and J.D. McKissic will make this offense very explosive. The offense will be a lot more fun to watch this year than in years past.

However, I think the offense will lack consistency. With the lack of experience at almost every position on the offense, there will be weeks that they will struggle. The offense this year could be very boom or bust.

The team will be much improved and more competitive. A shortened offseason combined with a brutal last stretch of the season has the team with another double-digit loss season. With that said, the 2020 season does show a solid foundation for future success.

Haskins takes the sophomore leap

In my opinion, the No. 1 goal for the franchise this year is to find out if Dwayne Haskins is the guy. Not only do I have Washington doubling its win total, I believe Haskins plays well enough to give reason to believe he is the guy. He throws for around 25 TDs and has 10 interceptions or fewer. No matter their record, Haskins proving he can be a franchise quarterback is a good season.

Worst Case Scenario: 3-13

Washington’s defense isn’t anywhere near what it was hyped up to be. Haskins’ play plateaus and it is evident he cannot be the franchise quarterback. Washington is again in the quarterback market.  With all the surrounding distractions Washington bottoms out once again. At least they will have a top pick again.

Best Case Scenario: 9-7

With the improved play of Haskins and an elite defensive line, Washington claws its way to 9 wins. Ron Rivera wins Coach of the Year. They win a weak NFC East or sneak into the third wild card spot as the No. 7 seed.

I don’t think either scenario happens but they are both possible at either end of the spectrum.
