No. 4 – The Washington Football Team really likes Troy Apke

When the Washington Football Team signed former — and now current — Pittsburgh Steelers safety Sean Davis in the 2020 free agency period, it was assumed that Davis would start alongside Landon Collins at free safety.

Davis had 41 NFL starts to his name and a promising athletic profile. But even before the end of training camp, it was clear that Davis wasn’t even the favorite at the position. Instead, third-year defender Troy Apke stood out.

Ron Rivera beamed about Apke all through training camp, and when it was all said and done, the Washington Football Team felt confident enough about Apke to not only name him the starter, but also release Davis, the only other player with starting experience at the position.

It’s safe to assume that Washington really likes Apke, and they have reason to: He’s an elite athlete with the tools to be a very good player. But first, he has to show tangible improvement on the field, and fans will be looking for that, now that he’s passed the first test.
