5. OT Dan Skipper

It’s no secret that Washington needs some help at tackle. They were desperate enough to trade for David Sharpe earlier in the week to try to get some capable blockers on the roster, so it stands to reason that they will have their eyes on the tackle market as players hit waivers.

Dan Skipper could be a player that interests them. He’s not a proven commodity by any means, but he has a massive 6-foot-10 frame and saw action in a career-high six games last season. He’s still very much a work in progress, but with that size, he could emerge as a solid player with good coaching.

Skipper sent the 2019 preseason with the New England Patriots and when on the field, he looked good. That led to him getting a chance to play for the Houtson Texans and Detroit Lions in limited action. At just 25, he’s still a player who could have an upward trajectory at this point in his career and simply put, you aren’t going to find players his size in many places.

If Washington likes Skipper’s skills enough, they could explore adding him on the waiver wire. He could at least challenge the likes of Sharpe and Cornelius Lucas for a backup job especially as Saahdiq Charles continues to recover from a calf injury. Skipper may not pan out, but he’s worth a shot.

There aren’t a ton of quality tackle options on waivers, but Skipper at least demonstrates a unique one. It will be interesting to see if Washington takes a shot on him or sticks with Lucas and Sharpe as their big backup options.
