Atlanta Falcons claim Timon Parris off waivers from Washington Football Team
Timon Parris was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Falcons from the Washington Football Team.
The Washington Football Team decided to keep 10 offensive linemen on their initial 53-man roster. This was not a surprise considering their lack of proven talent at the position. Ron Rivera and Co. made it clear that they want to have options at the position in case their unproven talent struggles.
The strategy is certainly a sensible one for Washington. But even despite keeping 10 offensive linemen and five tackles, Timon Parris couldn’t quite make the team. The third-year tackle from Stony Brook was among the team’s roster cuts and some had hoped that Washington would try to keep him around on the practice squad.
However, they aren’t going to get a chance to do that. Parris was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Falcons to serve as tackle depth for them. While few expected that Parris would claim, Atlanta having an interest in the offensive tackle does make some sense.

Currently, the Falcons don’t have much depth at the tackle position. Behind Jake Matthews and Kaleb McGary, the team had only Matt Gono and John Wetzel as reserve tackle options. Both are shaky backups, so adding some extra competition at the position was a worthwhile move for them.
Parris does have potential. He has a 6-foot-6, 315-pound frame and has appeared in four games for Washington over two seasons with the team. He has had good performances in the preseason at times too, so maybe the Falcons can coax that out of him.
Losing Parris as a practice squad candidate will hurt Washington a little bit, if only because he is familiar with the team after spending three years with the team. Without him, Washington could elect to add another tackle to the unit whether that’s somebody like Paul Adams, who spent the offseason with the team, or another player from the open market.
Since Washington already has five tackles on the roster, the loss of Parris isn’t anything massive. But it will hurt their organizational depth a little bit, so if injuries strike at tackle, they may have to scramble to find a replacement more than they would’ve if Parris was around.
