Washington Football Team CB Greg Stroman safe, per reports
By Ian Cummings
The Washington Football Team’s cornerback group is coming into focus.
Earlier today, it was reported that third-year cornerback and former undrafted free agent Danny Johnson was safe, in regards to his status on the Washington Football Team‘s 53-man roster. The update naturally raised questions about the status of Greg Stroman, a fellow third-year cornerback who was competing with Johnson, and had reportedly been performing well at training camp in 2020.
Now, we have another update from The Athletic’s Ben Standig, who says that Stroman is also safe and will be included on the initial 53-man roster. This report confirms that the Washington Football Team will likely keep six cornerbacks, and this position group may be the first contested group to be officially settled.
With Stroman and Johnson now confirmed to be safe on the Washington Football Team’s 53-man roster, the finalized cornerback group for Washington seems to be comprised of Ronald Darby, Kendall Fuller, Jimmy Moreland, Fabian Moreau, and the aforementioned backups.
Stroman was a standout performer at Washington’s 2020 training camp session. He frequently received work with the second-team defense, sometimes rotating in with the first-team unit, and in summaries from team writers, it was made clear that he made a lot of plays on the ball.
Stroman has shown flashes on the field when healthy. In his rookie season in 2018, Stroman played in 15 games and started three, logging an interception and four pass deflections. He was again slated to be a solid backup in 2019, but after just one game, he was sidelined for the rest of the year with an injury.
Now fully healthy, Stroman seems primed to start showing his potential once again. With a 4.48 40-yard dash and a 33.5-inch vertical on record, he’s always had the physical tools necessary to contribute on defense. A new opportunity with Ron Rivera’s coaching staff allowed him to re-capitalize on that talent, and now, it seems as though he has some security for the coming months.
The Washington Football Team remains active in cutting down its roster, and even when the squad is trimmed down, the work won’t be over. Stick with us, as we’ll keep you in the loop with all the latest updates.
