The Washington Football Team has finally reached its initial set of 53, hours after starting the 2020 cut down process.

It was an offseason full of intrigue for the Washington Football Team, which kicked off the early months with the firing of team president Bruce Allen and the on-boarding of head coach Ron Rivera.

In the time that followed those initial moves, Rivera put together a coaching staff and revamped the roster through free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft. Now, they’ll start to reap the benefits, or consequences, of their roster construction.

Earlier today, the Washington Football Team set out to officially trim its roster to 53 players, and just minutes ago, they announced the entirety of the roster moves to get them to that point. The announcement can be seen below, with the full listing of the transactions necessitated to complete the cutdown.

Most of these moves were covered in our live roster cut tracker, which can be found via this link here. But there were some other moves added with the presentation of the official list. In addition to the cuts mentioned earlier, guard Joshua Garnett was released, as was International pathway program defensive lineman David Bada. Additionally, the Washington Football Team waived Aaron Colvin, and put cornerback Simeon Thomas on the reserve/injured list.

The moves aren’t done tricking in, as some players may be placed on injured reserve pursuant to the initial cutdown, so that they can be reinstated from injured reserve after Week 3. But the initial 53-man cutdown sets the stage for the events of the regular season, and it presents a crucial checkpoint in the conclusion of the Washington Football Team’s offseason.

The most notable cuts throughout this process include safety Sean Davis, running back Adrian Peterson, and Cam Sims. The former two were expected to be key contributors for Washington earlier in the offseason, and Sims had reportedly flashed down the stretch in camp.
