Defensive Line (4)

Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, Matt Ioannidis, Tim Settle

The only change that has occurred in this unit at any point from July to now is the absence of Caleb Brantley. The defensive lineman was a high-risk opt out for the season and he will try to win a spot on a crowded unit next year.

But once Brantley opted out, this became a four-man unit. Allen and Payne are both former first-round picks from Alabama who should wreak havoc on the interior. Ioannidis is the team’s best pure interior pass rusher and should see plenty of snaps this season. And Settle has been mentioned by Rivera and could see more snaps because of the 4-3 defense.

The only player that could challenge for a role on the defensive interior is Ryan Bee. The 2019 undrafted free agent from Marshall made a push last season and spent time on the practice squad. Were the position group thinner, he could’ve made the team as an inside/outside threat but for now, he’ll likely occupy a spot on the practice squad.
