Edge Rusher (5)

Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Ryan Kerrigan, Ryan Anderson, Jordan Brailford

After a few of the more stressful positions to predict on the Washington roster, we’re ono the fun stuff. Washington’s edge rush and defensive line may be the best in the business, and they are positioned to be the strength of this stop unit long-term.

Young will battle for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Sweat was underrated as a rookie and better fits the 4-3 scheme Washington is employing. And Kerrigan has averaged 10 sacks per season and is one of the most consistent players on the Washington team.

Beyond those three, there are a few players competing for roles. Anderson played well on the edge last year and Jack Del Rio plans to use him in the same capacity in this new defense. He should continue to set the edge well against the run and may continue to make strides as a pass rusher.

Beyond those four, Washington may not necessarily need another edge rusher, but they have talent. Brailford and James Smith-Williams are both fighting for roster spots but Brailford has been slightly more impressive at camp so far. He could get the nod with Smith-Williams hitting the practice squad and being a quick call-up if the team needs extra depth on the line.

No matter who they keep here, Washington will be able to field a strong edge rush. They have built this position into a strength and the duo of Sweat and Young could be the best in the NFL in just a couple of years.
