Roster Locks: Dwayne Haskins, Kyle Allen

As amazing as Alex Smith’s comeback has been, he’s not a lock for the 53-man roster just yet. There is a chance he starts the season on injured reserve, with a designation to return, as he hasn’t been exposed to any degree of contact with his leg.

Smith will still be a valuable mentor presence wherever he finds himself on game day, of course, and Kyle Allen can serve as a reliable backup to starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins. The only other quarterback to speak of is undrafted rookie Steven Montez, who’s a practice squad holdover at best.
