The Washington Football Team has released wide receiver Darvin Kidsy, and replaced him with Tony Brown.

The Washington Football Team came into the offseason with a lot of underlying uncertainty at the wide receiver position, and the happenings of the spring and summer months only compounded that uncertainty.

Veteran Cody Latimer was released after an off-field incident earned him a spot on the commissioner’s exempt list. In addition to Latimer, the team lost two promising young targets –Kelvin Harmon and Emanuel Hall — to injuries. Hall suffered an Achilles tear, while Harmon, widely regarded as a potential starter on the boundary, tore his ACL.

But even after all that turmoil, the Washington Football Team has picked up the pieces, and they’re heading into the final week of the offseason with a group they have some confidence in. It’ll take time for the players to earn that confidence on the field during regular season action, but Washington is poised to offer them that opportunity.

Of course, not all of the receivers that made it to this point will make it that much farther. Today, the Washington Football Team kicked off its cuts by releasing wide receiver Darvin Kidsy from the active roster. ESPN’s John Keim confirmed the news via his official Twitter account.

Kidsy joined the team as an undrafted free agent back in 2018, and his flashes in training camp and preseason led to an extended audition with Washington. Unfortunately for Kidsy, however, he spent much of his time with Washington on the practice squad, and when he did see regular season action, he was only able to log one catch for eight yards.

Kidsy is a very good athlete, but it became clear down the stretch that in Washington’s contested wide receiver battle, it would take more than talent to emerge. Other bubble players like Cam Sims and Trey Quinn recently had good sessions, and that potentially played a part in weakening Kidsy’s status.

Kidsy’s release coincided with a signing; the Washington Football Team quickly filled his spot by adding wide receiver Tony Brown. Brown, 6-foot-1, 195, was an undrafted free agent this year out of the University of Colorado, where he totaled 56 catches for 707 yards and five scores in his final season. Brown was initially signed by the Browns, then spent time with the Giants.
