The Washington Football Team needs a fifth cornerback. Greg Stroman seems to be stepping up at training camp.

For the 2020 NFL season, the Washington Football Team seems likely to keep five cornerbacks. While some teams opt to keep six at the position, Ron Rivera’s Carolina teams almost always kept five on the roster. Given the team’s unproven depth at the position, five corners seems like the right amount for Washington in 2020.

At present, it seems that four of the players on the roster are locked into spots. They would be Kendall Fuller, Jimmy Moreland, Fabian Moreau, and Ronald Darby. Beyond them, there are a few options at the position including Aaron Colvin, Greg Stroman, and Danny Johnson, but one may be separating himself from the pack.

According to Kyle Stackpole of Washington’s official team website, Stroman has been performing well in practice of late. He has intercepted a few balls including one that he made a nice break on in practice

Stroman was included on my latest 53-man roster projection because of the ability to track passes that he demonstrated as a rookie. In 15 games (three starts), he logged 38 tackles, four pass defenses, an interception, and a forced fumble.

His rookie performance is a big forgotten because he didn’t do much in his second campaign. But he was battling an injury and missed all but one game. If he’s healthy now, he can be a quality backup and he adds value on special teams because he can return kicks and punts.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if Stroman can keep performing well. If he can, the team will likely want to keep the 24-year-old around for the season. Perhaps Colvin or Johnson will step up and give him a run for his money but for the time being, this latest development should make Stroman the favorite to make the roster.
