The Washington Football Team doesn’t have a proven left tackle, but these players will look to change that.

For the better part of the past four decades, the Washington Football Team has possessed a quality starter at left tackle. Joe Jacoby. Jim Lachey. Chris Samuels. Trent Williams. All have blocked on the blind side for Washington and have done a great job of protecting the team’s quarterbacks.

However, in 2020, the story is a bit different for Washington. The offense is still a work in progress and one of those positions that is particularly in question is left tackle.

Washington does have some candidates for the position. That much is clear. But they don’t have a clear-cut starter with proven success at the position.

Sure, a couple of their candidates have made starts at left tackle. And they do have a fourth-round rookie that could’ve gone higher in the draft if not for some character concerns. But ahead of the 2020 season, nothing is certain with the position group. That’s why it will be one of the most important position battles to watch in the coming month.

Here’s an in-depth look at what Washington has at the tackle position and the three key players in the position battle for 2020. We’ll kick things off by looking at the player who is currently positioned to be the Week 1 starter.
