The Washington Football Team has gotten tight end Logan Thomas back in short order after a stint on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

To kick off training camp, the Washington Football Team had one player hit the league’s new Reserve/COVID-19 list. That was tight end Logan Thomas. The veteran pass-catcher had either tested positive for the virus or was exposed to someone who had recently tested positive for the virus.

But now, it seems that Thomas will be making his return to the team.

According to the team’s official Twitter account, Washington has activated Thomas from the Reserve/COVID-19 list. And that’s great news for their tight end corps.

There’s no doubt that Washington’s tight end group is a mediocre one. It’s probably the weakest unit on the team and it’s likely that the team will have to add talent there during the 2021 offseason.

That said, they’ll have to make do with what they have for 2020. Ron Rivera and Washington’s front office have brought in several players to compete with the incumbents, Hale Hentges and Jeremy Sprinkle, for playing time. Richard Rodgers. Thaddeus Moss. Marcus Baugh. All will fight for roles with the team.

Of the group, Thomas is the most proven at the NFL level, just edging out Rodgers because of the latter’s injury issues the past couple of seasons. Thomas started his career as a quarterback, but he has proven to be a solid role player at tight end in recent seasons. For the Lions last year, He grabbed 16 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown while playing 31 percent of the snaps.

In a bigger role in Washington, Thomas should be able to use his 6-foot-6 frame to produce as a middle-of-the-field threat for Dwayne Haskins. He has very good athleticism and if he can continue to improve as a blocker, he should emerge as the starter for Washington.

Had Thomas remained on the COVID-19 list longer, he may not have been able to emerge as a starter. And that would’ve taken away from the tight end competition. But now that he’s cleared, he’ll get a chance to develop some chemistry with Haskins. And that could prove crucial for Washington with the NFL season just five weeks away.
