Washington Football Team Training Camp Profiles: Cornerback
By Ian Cummings
Aaron Colvin
Experience: 7th season
Draft Status: 2014 fourth-round pick, 114th overall
2019 Stats: Six games, two starts, 10 total tackles, one pass deflection
2020 Outlook: Set to turn 29 years old in October, Aaron Colvin is the most senior member of Washington’s cornerback group, and it isn’t close. That’s the biggest thing he has going for him right now, as the rest of his resume is spotty. He allowed 13 completions, 196 yards, and two touchdowns on 15 targets last season, and although Washington made a point to sign him midway through the offseason, he’s on a cheap deal that can easily be separated from.
Expected Role: Colvin hasn’t started more than five games in a season since 2015, so it’s likely that he’ll be relegated to backup duty if he makes the roster. He does have starting experience, but the last time he was a quality starter was in 2015, so his best days may be behind him as a cornerback.
Status: Colvin is on the bubble, but as of now, he might be at the top of the bubble group. He’s not an exciting option, but he has the experience that others in this young cornerback room lack, and that experience could help him serve as a veteran mentor in the locker room.
