Jimmy Moreland

Experience: 2nd season

Draft Status: 2019 seventh-round pick (227th overall)

2019 Stats: 14 games, five starts, 42 total tackles, one tackle for loss, four pass deflections

2020 Outlook: Stuck in the middle of a confusing position group, Jimmy Moreland‘s outlook in 2020 is one of the more enticing, yet underrated storylines on defense. Moreland showed promise in his rookie season, allowing zero touchdowns in coverage and making several plays on the ball. He was known for his production in college, and it seems as though his instincts and athletic ability have him in line for a top backup job.

Expected Role: Provided that he continues to flash in training camp, Moreland has the inside track on the top rotational backup role at cornerback. I can also envision scenarios on the field where Kendall Fuller rotates to safety, and Moreland subsequently takes his place in the slot. Moreland should have more opportunities in 2020, and given how opportunistic he’s been in the past, it could be good for him.

Status: Moreland isn’t a one-hundred percent lock, but he’s far from the bubble. Given his youth and upside, he should be retained by Rivera, in what will be a year of discovery for the entire Washington Football Team.
