Washington Football Team training camp profiles: Linebackers
Kevin Pierre-Louis
Experience: 7th season
Draft Status: 2014 fourth-round pick, 132nd overall
2019 Stats: 14 games (three starts), 37 tackles, three pass defenses, two interceptions
2020 Outlook: For most of his career, Pierre-Louis has been a special teams ace. But last season, he got a chance to start a few games for the Chicago Bears and looked very good. Jack Del Rio has expressed excitement about Pierre-Louis’ game, so perhaps the 28-year-old was a diamond in the rough uncovered by Washington.
Pierre-Louis is a true Wild Card in Washington’s linebacker corps. He seems likely to make the team but his role could be anything from a starter to exclusively playing on special teams.
Expected Role: Top backup and special teams contributor. I have Pierre-Louis penciled in as the fourth linebacker to start the season. He should have a chance to compete for a starting role but at the moment, he’s probably behind Davis, Bostic, and Holcomb in the race for playing time. Maybe he’ll emerge as a starter but he’ll be a key player either way.
Status: Pierre-Louis is on a one-year deal, so he’s not a roster lock. He could be gone if the team’s younger players outplay him. That said, Pierre-Louis is well inside the roster bubble at this point and it would take a very strong effort from the youth on Washington’s roster to oust him from the 53-man roster.
