The Washington Football Team may well have the best defensive line in the NFL.

Five years ago, Washington had one of the worst defensive line units in the league. The patchwork group was headlined by Chris Baker, a solid player, but the other options the team fielded at the time were merely decent.

The likes of Ziggy Hood, Kedric Golston, and Ricky Jean-Francois were fine rotational players. But too often, they were forced to play big roles. As a result, Washington struggled to contain the run for a while before they spent resources upgrading their front.

And upgrade they did. In each of the last four drafts, the team has spent a pick on a defensive lineman, two interior players and two edge rushers. Now, the unit is one of the strongest in the league and should be the catalyst for the Washington defense.

In particular, the interior defensive line should help the team find success in 2020. They have plenty of talented players on this unit including some inside/outside guys who could be hybrid forces in Jack Del Rio’s first year running the defense.

Here’s an in-depth look at what Washington has at the position and how each player could be used during the 2020 NFL season.

Note: Edge rushers like Ryan Kerrigan, Chase Young, and Montez Sweat are not included in these training camp profiles. They’ll have their own separate article, so stay tuned fro that.
