Washington Football Team places Logan Thomas on Reserve/COVID list
Logan Thomas, the top tight end on the Washington Football Team, has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
So far, ahead of the 2020 NFL season, only one member of the Washington Football Team has opted out of playing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. That would be Caleb Brantley, a reserve defensive lineman who was expected to make the squad as the team’s fifth defensive tackle.
But on Wednesday, the team did have some more player news related to the virus.
According to the team’s official Twitter account, tight end Logan Thomas has been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
So, what exactly does that mean? It means one of two things. Either Thomas had a positive COVID-19 test or he was exposed to the virus by someone who has recently tested positive. Either way, he will have to self-quarantine for at least a little while to kick off training camp for the Washington Football Team.
To be clear, Thomas has not opted out of the season at this point. And it’s possible that he could return to practice in the near future. But as part of the NFL’s protocol, he simply has to stay away from the team until he is cleared. And given the nature of the virus, it’s unclear exactly how long that may take.
Thomas was expected to be the top tight end for Washington, but the position group is wide open. With Thomas out, guys like Hale Hentges, Jeremy Sprinkle, Richard Rodgers, Caleb Wilson, and Thaddeus Moss will get a chance to stake their claim for more playing time. All of these players will be hungry for a chance to prove themselves amid the competition at the position.
That said, what matters above all else is Thomas’ health and safety. Hopefully, everything ends up being okay for Thomas. He will certainly be on the minds of Washington fans everywhere in the coming days. As soon as there’s an update on his status, we’ll pass it along.
