Washington football training camp profiles: Offensive line
By Ian Cummings
Chase Roullier
Experience: 4th season
Draft Status: 2017 sixth-round pick, 199th overall
2019 Stats: 14 games, 14 starts
2020 Outlook: Like Scherff, there will be questions about Chase Roullier‘s contract status after the 2020 season. But unlike Scherff, the pressure is on Roullier to sell himself to the Washington football team’s new coaching staff, and not on the coaching staff to get a deal done.
Roullier has been steady and dependable in his three seasons as a pro — nothing more and nothing less. “Steady and dependable” will always have a place in the NFL, but Roullier will need to take his individual play up a notch if he wants to earn long-term money with Washington. Otherwise, the recently-drafted Keith Ismael could end up taking his place.
Expected Role: Roullier will presumably retain his role as the Washington football team’s starting center for a third straight season, ever since he took the job from Spencer Long midway through the 2017 campaign. Roullier, while only solid as a starter, is lauded for his pre-snap communication and awareness, and he’ll be an essential piece in molding a volatile line together.
Status: Barring any surprises, Roullier is a roster lock. His blend of youth and starting experience at the center position is a valuable thing, and he began the process of building chemistry with quarterback Dwayne Haskins last year.
