Brandon Scherff

Experience: 6th season

Draft Status: 2015 first-round pick, fifth overall

2019 Stats: 11 games, 11 starts, Pro Bowl nod

2020 Outlook: The contract status is still up in the air for Washington football offensive guard Brandon Scherff, but as for the 2020 season, he appears to be a full-go. The two sides appear comfortable waiting to hash out a long-term deal, and for Scherff, that means focusing entirely on football in 2020.

Scherff, who turns 29 years old in December, has been pretty good at this football thing since entering the league in 2015. He’s started 65 total games and earned three Pro Bowl bids in 2016, 2017, and 2019. He’s grown to be one of the best guards in the league, and he should have no trouble anchoring Washington’s line for another year.

Expected Role: Brandon Scherff will man the right guard position, as he has for five years now. With Trent Williams gone, Scherff takes the mantle as the team’s best offensive lineman, and he’ll be tasked with elevating those around him, as well as protecting budding quarterback Dwayne Haskins. There’s naturally a lot of pressure on Scherff to come in and provide quality play, but that’s been the expectation for him as long as he’s been in burgundy and gold.

Status: No winding prose needed here, as much as my writing instincts might say otherwise — Scherff is a roster lock.
