Marcus Baugh

Experience: 3rd season

Draft Status: 2018 undrafted free agent

2019 Stats: N/a

2020 Outlook: Baugh is familiar with Ron Rivera’s system from their time together with the Carolina Panthers. That’s why the head coach brought along Baugh to compete in the unproven Washington tight end room. Baugh, 25, has never played a regular-season snap at the NFL level and Washington represents his third team since entering the league.

Expected Role: Baugh is mostly noted for his blocking prowess and isn’t much of a receiver. For Washington, Baugh will look to prove that his 6-4, 245-pound frame is enough to keep him around as a depth player on the roster. Consider him to be similar to Logan Paulsen, a versatile, big-bodied blocker who played five seasons with Washington. Baugh isn’t as refined as Paulsen but if he can block well enough, he could earn a similar type of backup role.

Status: Practice squad hopeful. It seems unlikely that Baugh has enough athletic ability or skills as a pass-catcher to make the Washington roster. However, if he can prove to be a solid blocker, that may be enough to earn him a practice squad role. That will give the team a chance to keep him as a backup to Jeremy Sprinkle that they won’t have to invest a lot in. And if he develops, perhaps he could be a solid back-end roster candidate in 2020.
