2020 Outlook: Thomas is coming off a career season and though he’s 29, he has only been playing as a tight end for a few years at the NFL level. He should continue to grow the more he plays and this could be his best season yet.
The former Virginia Tech quarterback is playing close to home and will have a chance to be a focal point in the team’s passing attack, especially if he’s paired at the position with more of a traditional blocking complement in any two tight end sets. He is a proven athlete and he was trending up at the end of last season, so he was a good investment for Washington.
Expected Role: Likely starter. Thomas is the most well-rounded option the team has at the position and has great athleticism on his 6-6 frame. He’ll probably be the top receiving weapon and will be Dwayne Haskins’ top middle-of-the-field target.
Status: Thomas can’t quite be considered a roster lock since nothing is settled at the position roster-wide. But he is the closest thing the team has to a lock.
