Washington Football Team signs all rookie draft picks to contracts
The Washington Football Team has signed all of their 2020 NFL Draft picks.
It was always the goal for the Washington Football Team to have their eight draft picks under contract ahead of training camp. And the team was optimistic that they would have their rookies under contract by Friday.
Well, Friday has come and that goal came to fruition. According to the team’s official website, all eight of the Washington rookies have signed their rookie contracts.
This is hardly a surprise. The only reason that many rookies weren’t under contract before Friday was the COVID-19 pandemic. Usually, rookies report to their respective teams shortly after the draft to take their physicals and agree on deals. But because of the pandemic, that wasn’t possible in 2020.

But with training camp approaching soon — provided that the NFL and NFLPA officially agree on the final hangups with testing protocol needed to hold NFL camps — it was time for rookies to report to their teams. And with all of them in town, Washington was able to agree to contracts with all of them.
It will be interesting to see just how quickly this rookie class can acclimate to the NFL level. Without rookie camp and OTAs, their transition to the league could be a little bit trickier than usual. That said, some of the team’s players, like No. 2 overall pick Chase Young, look ready to produce right away at the NFL level. So, watching the path that each rookie is on will be one of the most interesting parts of 2020 training camp.
Between the eight draft picks and four undrafted free agents Washington signed, the team has 12 rookies on their roster. We’ll soon see how many of them can crack the team’s 53-man roster ahead of the 2020 NFL season.
