2020 Outlook: Will 2020 finally be the year that Sims can live up to the hype? The 6-5 preseason dynamo has long been a fan favorite, but he hasn’t been able to do much on the field at the NFL level. That said, he has stuck around Washington the past two years, bouncing around from the practice squad to the active roster. So, there’s obviously something there with him.
Sims has the size needed to make a difference for a team that doesn’t have any proven talent at tight end and could use a bigger backup at receiver. Sims could become a red-zone specialist if all goes well, and that would likely make Washington fans very happy.
Expected Role: At this moment, Sims seems like a top candidate for the sixth receiver spot. His sheer size stands out and should give him a chance to make the roster… if he can avoid the critical drops that have plagued him in other preseason outings. But no matter where he falls on the depth chart, his biggest responsibilities will be as a red-zone threat and a downfield jump-ball catcher.
Status: Sims is one of the many Washington receivers on the roster bubble. Again, he’s probably one of the top options for the sixth receiver spot, but if the team goes light at the position or a less experienced player steps up, Sims could find himself starting another year on the practice squad.
