Washington football training camp profiles: Wide Receiver
Isaiah Wright
Experience: 1st season
Draft Status: 2020 undrafted free agent
2019 Stats: 12 games, 47 catches, 442 yards, five touchdowns, five rushes, 48 yards at Temple
2020 Outlook: With Scott Turner looking for versatile weapons for his offense, Isaiah Wright should pique his interest. The former Temple Owl began his career as a well-balanced receiver and running back combo before becoming more of a receiver later in his career.
Wright has a solid 6-2 frame and good athletic ability. He can play anywhere on the field and that could prove valuable for a team that already employs Antonio Gibson, Steven Sims, J.D. McKissic, Derrius Guice, and Bryce Love. It may be tough for him to crack that rock-solid rotation, but with versatility being key for Turner, Wright’s is duly noted.
Expected Role: Wright would be the type of all-field player that Turner frequently uses as a threat on offense. Again, he’d fall low in the pecking order there, but you can never have too much depth there, especially when two of the top players who can catch passes out of the backfield (Guice and Love) are coming off knee injuries.
Status: Likely practice squader. Wright probably isn’t quite ready to make the 53-man roster with a condensed offseason and (likely) no preseason games. But Rivera and Turner liked Wright enough to target him as an undrafted free agent — they only signed four — so he should stick around in a practice squad role barring a surprise in either the positive or negative direction.
