Washington has locked up Chase Young on his rookie contract.

On Wednesday, the Washington football team was able to sign three of their rookie draft picks to contracts. Thursday, they continued the positive trend of inking players to deals by signing the marquee player from their draft class.

Chase Young, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, officially signed his first NFL contract on Thursday.

As NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport detailed on Twitter, the deal is worth nearly $35 million over four years.

And Young noted the official signing with a message of his own on Twitter.

This is certainly positive news for Washington. Young figures to be a big part of the team’s future and should be a force on the team’s already strong defensive line. He had 16.5 sacks during his final season at Ohio State and Washington will hope that he can become a double-digit sack artist and game wrecker at the next level.

Young’s deal comes later than usual for most top draft picks, but there wasn’t any cause for concern about that. The COVID-19 pandemic simply delayed the process of players getting physicals which delayed the contract signing process. Young was never in danger of holding out; his signing timeline was just delayed.

With training camp nearly here, Washington appears to be in good shape as they look to lock up their rookie class. Young was obviously the biggest piece for them to get under contract and now, they will have team control over him for at least five years.

It will be interesting to see just how quickly Young can acclimate himself to the NFL. He was the most pro-ready player in the 2020 draft class, so a shortened offseason shouldn’t impact him too much. He will certainly be a big part of Washington’s plans during the 2020 NFL season.
