Five Washington football players who need preseason to make the roster
By Ian Cummings
No. 3 – WR Darvin Kidsy
It’s been a mixed bag of circumstances for Darvin Kidsy so far this offseason. Injuries to Emanuel Hall and Kelvin Harmon have provided him with an avenue to make the final roster, and legal issues surrounding Cody Latimer have the same effect.
Without preseason, however, Kidsy will be deprived of a valuable opportunity to display his superior athletic ability on the field, amidst his peers. In 2019, Kidsy used his preseason reps to accumulate 11 catches and 118 yards, including five catches for 86 yards in a strong Week 1.
Due to the emergence of Steven Sims, Kidsy was relegated to the practice squad, but this year, there’s a far larger opening for him to seize. It won’t be as easy without another preseason slate to take advantage of, however, and by the end of it all, Rivera may pass over Kidsy and other similar options, perhaps instead looking to the waiver wire to fill out the remaining spots at the position.
Other receivers, particularly undrafted rookies Isaiah Wright and Johnathan Johnson, could also see their roster chances fall into jeopardy without a preseason period.
