Attorney Beth Wilkinson will perform a deep dive into the Redskins organization’s past culture.

Earlier this week, rumors of a bombshell story about the Washington Redskins began to emerge. Rumblings started after the firings of Alex Santos and Richard Mann II, as it was considered odd that the team moved on from two high-ranking pro personnel men just weeks away from training camp. Then, long-time Washington announcer Larry Michael abruptly retired.

From there, the rumblings got louder. The story began to be referenced by numerous members of the media who covered the team. Exact details of the rumored organizational culture and misconduct were few and far between, but those who knew a bit about the situation made one thing clear. It was bad.

The Washington Post is reportedly the outlet set to publish the story. As of this writing, that hasn’t happened yet. But the Redskins franchise is evidently preparing for the worst.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Washington hired D.C. attorney Beth Wilkinson to review the organization’s protocols. The review will include “a deep dive into the organization’s past culture”, as Schefter detailed in a tweet.

Speculation certainly has run amok over the course of the week as the knowledge of the story has become more and more widespread. But until the story is officially released, the rumors about the piece are only that: rumors.

That said, the fact that Washington is hiring a lawyer to take a look at their organization showcases that the organization is taking this matter seriously. And it also simultaneously demonstrates that the story well may raise alarm, as so many have alluded to.

Again, we won’t know the full details of everything until it comes out. But given the way things are going, it’s not looking good for Washington.
