Riggo’s Rag Mailbag: Get your Redskins questions in for July 2020!
By Ian Cummings
Another month of the offseason has passed, and with the next one comes a whole new batch of Redskins questions!
Some of those questions will be similar, if not identical, to the ones we’ve been dealing with since free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft. The Washington Redskins added a lot of players in the acquisition phase, headlined by Chase Young, and the roster turnover seen in D.C. nearly paces the league for 2020. We’ll have to wait to see how the pieces mesh until the players hit the field, and until then, we’re merely speculating on what might happen.
There are plenty of questions to ask, regarding not only the fit of the new players, but the fit of the new coaches as well, and how they’ll mesh with their personnel. Head coach Ron Rivera, offensive coordinator Scott Turner, and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio have all expressed excitement toward coaching the Redskins in 2020, but as we’ve seen before, 32 teams get excited during the offseason; that excitement doesn’t endure for half of them.
In addition to the football related questions, there are also other notes of uncertainty plaguing the Redskins. The statue of former owner George Preston Marshall was removed from the foreground of RFK Stadium, and Marshall’s name was removed from the Redskins Ring of Honor. There has also been public pressure mounting surrounding the Redskins’ name and mascot, and in this social climate, it’s worth wondering if Dan Snyder might concede.
Additionally, the COVID-19 outbreak has had a resurgence of sorts in the past week, leaving many to ponder the viability of an NFL season in 2020.
July is around the corner, and we want to give you an opportunity to ask questions about all things Redskins-related, both on and off the field. Want to get our take on some roster sleepers? Coaches’ impacts? The status of the team name debate? The circumstances surrounding the safety of a full 2020 season? We’re here to answer your questions, with the next edition of the Riggo’s Rag Mailbag!
Go ahead and submit your mailbag questions, and we’ll have a full mailbag with answers out at the start of next month. Thanks as always for reading and listening, and stick with us here at Riggo’s Rag!
