Overall

After several years of poor drafting, the Redskins improved a bit in 2014, but it could’ve been very good without the needless trade in Round 2.  The Redskins didn’t have a first-round pick once again and that lowers the grade as well.

Trent Murphy was a good choice and he was a solid contributor for three years. Morgan Moses was a very nice selection in round three and Bashaud Breeland provided great value in the fourth round.

Spencer Long and Ryan Grant were not disasters overall, but Redskins fans know the team could’ve done better with those third and fifth-round choices.  The final two rounds were simply forgetful.

If you add in DeMarcus Lawrence and subtract Murphy and Long, the grade is elevated to at least a B-minus. In their quest to gain more draft capital and to compensate for the absence of a first-round pick, the Redskins outsmarted themselves in the process.

Murphy, Moses, and Breeland make this draft palatable, but you would like to see a bit of success in those final two rounds. Our grade for the 2014 draft is not bad, but we believe it could’ve been better.
