Re-grading the Washington Redskins 2013 NFL Draft class
Round 5
If you look up the word “perseverance”, don’t be surprised to see a picture of former Florida State running back Chris Thompson in the definition. The determined Seminole never lost his focus during seven years with the Redskins, but he had every reason to be discouraged along the way.
Thompson played sparingly his first two years in the league. In 2014, he spent most of the season on the practice squad. But 2015 was a breakout year and while he was no more than a third-down specialist through the years, Thompson put up some solid numbers.
From 2015 to 2019, his numbers are as follows: 206 receptions for 1,705 yards, 247 carries for 1,182 yards, and 14 total touchdowns. These are not gaudy numbers, but keep in mind that he was utilized almost exclusively as a third-down back.

The Redskins were able to get good value with this pick and while it took a period of time for him to make an impact in the league, Thompson was worth the wait.
Later in the fifth round, the Redskins had an extra pick via a 2011 trade of Albert Haynesworth to the Patriots. The choice was another Florida State product, outside linebacker Brandon Jenkins.
Jenkins played in a few games that season and had very little impact and that is the extent of his career. If Thompson was the sole pick in this round, it would a solid “B” for the value obtained. But Jenkins drags the value of this pick down a bit.
