Charley Taylor is the fourth receiver on this list. But he didn’t start out that way. When he originally entered the NFL, he was a running back, and a big one, measuring at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds.

Interestingly enough, Taylor played his career with a bad knee, as it had been injured during his baseball days in college by a direct hit from a line drive. Taylor played both baseball and football in college, and it was that injury that forced him to pursue a career in the NFL.

Taylor didn’t let the injury hamper his long-term production, however, and following a position change from running back to wide receiver, he set a new standard at the position. In 14 years with the Redskins, Taylor amassed 649 receptions, 9,110 receiving yards, and 79 touchdowns through the air. He went to the Pro Bowl a whopping eight times, earning All-Pro honors with his efforts in the season of 1967.

Taylor only passed the 1,000-yard mark once, but in a past era of football, Taylor achieved unnatural success at the wide receiver position. He ended his career as the most prolific wide receiver in the NFL’s then short history, and although his records have been broken, his legacy will never die.
