In this edition of Inside the Numbers, with the Washington Redskins, we take a look at fan-favorite Matthew Ioannidis.

As the season hopefully nears a starting point, we will begin taking a look at the Washington Redskins, and some of their players. Using Pro Football Focus’ in-depth analytics, we will break down some of the key statistics.

It is important to keep in mind that the use of analytics is a tool that can be very nuanced in certain situations. These articles will be an attempt to draw conclusions, using the most scientific means available. We will break down what we see on the field, as well as the numbers, to give a detailed analysis of each player

Washington Redskins‘ Matt Ioannidis, has become a fan favorite since being drafted in the fifth round (152 overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.  His, hard-nosed, blue-collar mentality has helped him become a dominant force in the trenches. Ioannidis managed to earn an alternate spot on the 2020 Pro Bowl roster.  Along with the Pro Bowl nod, he has quietly built an impressive resume during his time in Washington. Let’s take a look at how he was graded among all interior defensive linemen by Pro Football Focus last season (Interior defensive linemen include 3-4 defensive ends).

Pro Football Focus grades (Minimum of 463 plays)

Overall Grade – 71.9 (28th)

Rush Defense – 64.4 (59th)

Tackling – 52.1 (45th)

Pass Rush – 76.6 (12th)
