Philadelphia Eagles: TE Zach Ertz

When looking at the Eagles roster, it’s pretty easy to zero in on a player that would upgrade the Redskins offense immensely.

Zach Ertz is one of the best tight ends in the NFL. He’s great over the middle of the field, is a reception machine, and has a nice combination of speed size that lets him make plays in the Eagles’ offense. He has seen at least 106 targets and made at least 74 targets in five consecutive seasons and would figure to be a nice high-volume weapon for the Redskins.

Currently, Washington doesn’t have much at tight end. Logan Thomas was signed as a veteran free agent, and he could emerge as a decent all-around option thanks to his size and athleticism. but the former quarterback and 29-year-old is probably better served as a top backup than a starter.

And elsewhere on the team, the likes of Jeremy Sprinkle, Hale Hentges, Caleb Wilson, and undrafted free agent Thaddeus Moss may have some upside, but none will ever compare to the dual-threat ability that Ertz has as a pass catcher and a blocker.

Ertz’s presence would strengthen the Redskins’ receiving corps as a whole and would balance out the tight end position pretty well. He will turn 30 in November, but the NFL’s best tight ends tend to be able to play into their mid-30s, so he still has plenty left in the tank.

If the Redskins were allowed to make these moves, they would do a lot to strengthen their team surrounding Dwayne Haskins. And their only glaring weakness after this would be that they’re lacking a true three-down linebacker and don’t have a lot of proven talent in the receiving corps.

All of this is just hypothetical and there’s no way this would ever happen. But it’s still fun to dream.
